The game is inside every child. We hope to bring this out of them. By providing a safe environment and consistent encouragement, we can reduce their fear of failure. By giving them a variety of opportunities to make choices, meet challenges and make their own decisions, the child will develop self-control and responsibility. The player becomes willing to try new things, take risks, participate, contribute, and perhaps even assume leadership roles.
The League plays during the Fall and Spring of each year. Fields are located at Bartlett Elementary. It is for the U6 and U8 age groups (The “U#” translates to “under age 6 or under age 8”). Each season lasts about 2 months and brings new and returning players. All players must come prepared with a size 3 ball, fully covered shin guards and water to drink. At the start of the season, players are put into their appropriate age group and training commences. Players are given a chance to participate with all of the other players in their age group, regardless of their skill level. Training will be coordinated and performed by a USSF licensed coach. After a few training sessions, players will be combined into smaller groups, supervised by volunteer parents. The smaller groups will be created with equally varied player skill levels. Training activities will continue, and games will be scheduled between the small groups. U6 games will be 3v3, and U8 will be 4v4. There are no keepers.
Help is needed with the following: equipment manager, field lining, and first aid.
The game is the best teacher of the sport. Children learn best when they are playing the game. The more the child touches the ball, the more they will develop as soccer players. This is accomplished through small-sided games and activities which are age appropriate. The emphasis is on player development, not team development.
Above all, the child must have fun. |
